Mulabagilu is a city and taluk headquarters of Mulabagilu taluk in the Kolar district in the state of Karnataka, India. It lies just off the National Highway 4 as the eastern most town of the state and a hill landmark.

"Mulabagilu" (ಮುಳಬಾಗಿಲು) comes from the word mudalabagilu, which means the "eastern door" in the native Kannada language. Mulabagilu was supposedly the easternmost frontier of (and thereby the entrance to) the state of Mysuru. Hence, the name. Mulabagilu was also the eastern gate to the Vijayanagara Empire.

Garuda Temple and Sri Prasanna Chowdeshwari Temple, Koladevi

Garuda Temple is one of the ancient epic Ramayana-related temples located at Koladevi 18 km from Mulabagilu national highway, 19 km from Srinivaspur and 4 km from Mudianur. It was built under the supervision of Sri Ramanujacharya, but only came to light recently. Sri Prasanna Chowdeshwari Temple is 300 years old.

The Garuda is a large mythical bird, bird-like creature, or humanoid bird that appears in both Hindu and Buddhist mythology. Garuda is the mount (vahana) of the Lord Vishnu. Garuda is the Hindu name for the constellation Aquila. The brahminy kite and phoenix are considered to be the contemporary representations of Garuda. Indonesia adopts a more stylistic approach to the Garuda's depiction as its national symbol, where it depicts a Javanese eagle (being much larger than a kite)

The garuda temple located in 'koladevi' a small village located in 'mulabagal taluk' in' kolar' district karnataka. This is one of the very few temples which has its principle diety as 'garuda swamy' who is the vehicle of the supreme lord vishnu.

Coming to the history of koladevi, in threta yuga during ramayana, the demon king of Sri Lanka 'RAVANA' who kidnapped 'SEETHA' while taking her in his 'Vimana' a bird called 'Jatayu' was opposed Ravana  to save Seetha. At that time 'Ravana with his sword broke both of the wings of that bird, even the bird attempted a strong fight to rescue sitha from ravana. Then with extreme pain the bird chanted as 'Rama' 'Rama' , after hearing the painful chanting of the bird Lord Srirama saw the bird and came to know the facts. Then the bird requested rama to bury the bird at the same place . After this incident the place got the name as 'koladevi' and now in kaliyuga the same jatayu is resided as 'garuda' and the idol of garuda was installed by the great sage 'brugu maharshi' some centuries back, and performed regular rituals for the diety. And the speciality of the garuda idol here is that it is carrying lord 'vishnu' on right shoulder, and godess 'lakshmi' on left shoulder. And one can find a beautiful idol of lord 'hanuman' also here. And the temple is getting more and more popular as it is the one of the very few garuda temples in india. So the temple here is very powerful and so many people have benefited by performing puja at the temple. The temple is opened through out the year.
